MALANJKHAND BETHESDA BOYS HOME, MADHYA PRADESH

MalanjKhand is a city and a municipality in the Balaghat district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. This small town has one of the biggest open cast copper mines in Asia and many of the local people are employed there. Madhya Pradesh, otherwise known as Central Province is often called the ‘heart of India’ due to its central location within the country. The Indian Planning commission estimates that the the proportion of people living below the poverty line in 1999–2000 in Madhya Pradesh was over 38%, which is well above the all India average of 26.10%. Malnutrition is also notably higher in this region, compared to the national average.

The house parents of the home in Malanjkhand are Pastor K Isaac and his wife Lizzy. The home provides shelter for  14 boys of ages 6-16 years old, who have been rescued from destitute situations. As well as receiving food, clothing, schooling and loving care the boys are engaged in a Foundations for Life training program. Over a period of three years this provides the boys with skills usually gained in a home environment including hygiene and toileting, eating and manners, responding to care, communication and social skills, self esteem, regular sleeping patterns and overcoming violent and aggressive behaviour. The children like to play football, and Indian sports like GulliDanda and Kabaddi. Most of them dream of becoming doctors and people of influence in the society.

Brij Lal Dhurwe is the older brother of Vijay and Ajay. All the three boys are in our Home. Their parents died when they were very young. They had no one to take care of them and nowhere to go. The people of the village heard of the Home and so the boys were brought to the refuge of the Home. Today Brij is very happy in the Home. He studies very well, loves the Lord and dreams of becoming of preacher of the Gospel, when he grows up.
